On June 27, 1955 John Foster Dulles U.S. Secretary of State donated per Deed of Gift : “the John Foster Dulles Trophy to the Crescent Yacht Club in Chaumont NY for competition in the Dragon Class in the interest of International Goodwill and Sportsmanship in the Lake Ontario and St Lawrence River area.”
It was the earliest donated American trophy for Dragon competition, and was in competition from 1955 to 1968. Regrettably, the original Stueben Glass trophy, especially commissioned by the donor, was irreprably damaged while on display at a venue in 1957 and was replaced by a smaller Steuben Glass vase.
The replacement remained in competition until 1968 and is currently on display at the Crescent Yacht Club in Chaumont, NY.
