Dragon Registers

The Canadian Dragon Register was begun around 1950 with the first-constituted Canadian Dragon organization, in Toronto, with Memberships from Dragon fleets across Canada.  While Class Chairman in 1985, Jack Sudbury of Picton ON computerized the data.

The US Register was begun by Jack in 2007 as Class Historian to the new Dragon Website. It was based on data collected from many US Dragon sailors, most early data coming from a Fleet List of the 1995 AIDA National Secretary Dave Washatka.

Many early Dragons were imported to North America from Norway and Denmark, and somewhat later, the UK, so you will find a lot of cross-references in those registers. The 1965 IDA Handbook lists Dragons by country.

Most builders keep records of the Dragons they have built and are another source of information on North American Dragons.

Recently we have started building a Dragon Archive website to capture our digital shoebox of content in a searchable format. It’s still a work in progress but you can check it out at dragonarchive.org.
